How Can Cybersecurity Be Defined?

Cyber Practices Cyber Security

Now, let us tackle cybersecurity and how cybersecurity can be defined as. Also, let us know the three main principles of cybersecurity.

Let’s Defined Cybersecurity

In this article, we will discuss the kinds of definitions of cybersecurity. So how can we define cybersecurity as?

In the simplest form, cybersecurity is a process of protecting computer networks from cyberattacks. Cybersecurity is a set of technologies and processes.

Also, a practice to safeguard digital information from the following:

  • unauthorized access
  • malicious attacks
  • data breaches,
  • data theft.

This concept has been growing since the early days of the Internet. So the need for cybersecurity became more important.

Many new terms have been introduced from time to time based on the nature of the technology. Such terms include:

  • end-to-end encryption
  •  authentication methods
  • device-level security techniques
  • defense in depth strategy
  • layered security model
  • many more

These all are used to secure a system or a network of systems from cyberattacks or hackers.

What Are The Main Principles Of Cybersecurity?

Now let us discuss what are the main principles of cybersecurity. So the main principles of cybersecurity are the following:

Now let us know more about the main principles let us start with confidentiality. So confidentiality is the fundamental principle of cybersecurity.

It is the fundamental right of an individual to protect their privacy. This is the most important principle of cybersecurity.

The confidentiality principle is aimed at protecting information against the following:

  • unauthorized access
  • use
  • Disclosure
  • Interception
  • Modification
  •  destruction

So Confidentiality is also defined as the property that protects information. From unauthorized access or disclosure.

This Confidentiality is maintained by proper authentication and authorization techniques.

Integrity is the second main principle of cybersecurity. So integrity ensures that only authorized users and applications.

Also, systems have access to information and they can use it for authorized purposes only. Integrity can be defined as the property of being whole and undivided.

Moreover, the property of an object or entity. Which suffers no detectable changes to its essential constituents.

So integrity is maintained by proper authorization techniques. Also, cryptographic techniques like hashing algorithms, etc.

Integrity can be achieved via encryption techniques which help in securing data in transit. As well as data at rest i.e. in the storage on media like hard drives etc.

Now we are here at the third main principle of cybersecurity. So availability refers to providing timely and uninterrupted access to systems.

Moreover, information is required by users or applications for authorized purposes. It refers to the ability to access a computer system.

Also, network at any time of need for business functions or any other purpose. Availability can be defined as a measure of how often a system is available to users.

When they want it for legitimate use. Availability is maintained by backup mechanisms.

If disaster strikes, disaster recovery planning will be initiated immediately. Then, after disaster strikes so that business continuity can be maintained without any deviation.

From the scheduled programs of operation. Even if there are some damages caused due to an attack on the assets of an organization.

That is resulting in a compromise of the availability of assets of an organization. So by some kind of attack launched by hackers on assets belonging to an organization.
